Deli - Captain

Paul Loader - Head Coach

Old Cats 1st XV

9/7/07 - Delicata takes over as skipper.

Jonathan Delicata has been appointed club and first team captain of the Old Caterhamians. Delicata takes over from Ewan Turney who stood down after five years at the helm of the Park Avenue outfit. “It is a great privilege,” said Delicata. “Being captain of a great club like Old Cats means everything to me.” Cats will be looking to bounce back after their first ever foray into the London leagues led to relegation by the narrowest of margins from London Four S-W to Surrey One.

“Our goal this season has to be promotion once again,” said Delicata. “We have to get back to basics and back to winning games. We need to build a better side with more experience to ensure that we stay up next time.”

Pre-season training begins this Tuesday (17 July) under the watchful eye of head coach Paul Loader who is confident of a quick return to the London leagues, “What we learnt from last year is that we are capable of competing at that level and without injuries to vital team members I am confident we would still be there now. “This season we have got to go out and get promoted – simple as that. But we must be more consistent and ruthless when we have the beating of opponents. We must perform against all teams and not just the top sides. We need to get back to London Four as soon as possible.”

Cats hope their numbers will be boosted by taking part in the RFU’s official Go Play Rugby recruitment campaign to get men and women from 16 years of age upwards involved in senior rugby.

Training will take place every Tuesday at Park Avenue at 730pm.
